HOLY CROSS SCHOOL WALKATHON
At the October 5th and 6th Masses, Holy Cross students will be announcing the annual ‘Walk-In-the-Lawns’ Walkathon fundraiser to be held on Friday, October 11th. After each Mass, students will be at the back of church accepting donations to assist them in reaching their goal. We thank you in advance for your support of this event!
Renovation and Seismic Project & Campaign
Capital Campaign Update
Why a seismic upgrade and renovation versus a new building?
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver (RCAV) conducted an audit and inspection, and in their Facility Conditions Report, it was determined that while the Holy Cross Elementary School building remains in good condition, thanks to effective and strategic maintenance over the years, it now falls short of meeting the current seismic safety regulations.
Taking into account factors such as cost efficiency and student safety, a focus on seismic upgrades and renovations allowed a quicker timeline (approximately 1- 2 years) and the opportunity to address specific areas of the building (e.g., HVAC, Air Conditioning, Library expansion, Staff room, Washrooms, exterior windows, roofing, etc.) while ensuring compliance with seismic safety codes. In contrast, constructing a brand-new school would cost approximately $20+ million and require significantly more time for design and obtaining the required permits, which could place a heavier financial burden on the school and parish community.
As we move forward, we remain committed to making decisions that best serve the needs of our students and the community, and we will continue to provide updates in the coming weeks on the progress of our capital campaign.
Homeless Program THIS WEEKEND
Our Homeless Program begins this weekend and this is the only weekend (Oct 5 & 6) that donations are accepted. Clear plastic bags are provided to help us sort through the donations and the bags can be picked up at the back of the church. Please put the men’s and women’s donations in separate bags. Only the following articles are needed: blankets, winter coats, gloves/mittens, boots, socks, toques, scarves and clothing. Please ensure your donations are in good condition and clean and reusable. You are most welcome to donate new items. Please tag your donation bag “Homeless Men” or “Homeless Women” and place it near the homeless box at the inside entrance of the church. Since the homeless do not have a place to stay or live in shelters, they cannot accept either furniture or cooking utensils. Also, the shelters and the centers cannot accept children’s clothing because they serve only adults. For more information, please phone/text Dillon (604-561-6918). Thank you for your support in reaching out to those in need.

Share Christmas 2024 – Boxes Needed
Share Christmas will commence on the 1st Sunday of Advent. We will be requesting food items like we did last year. In the meantime, we are asking parishioners to collect boxes that will help us transport your food to the Sisters in the Downtown Eastside. If you happen to shop at AAA, Red Apple, Save-On, Safeway, or Superstore, please ask the staff if they can donate one empty box (apple box preferred). If you are shopping at Costco, please ask the staff if you can take one empty tray (cucumbers, plum, kiwi, or tomato trays preferred). If you collect one box, as a parish community working together, we will collect enough boxes. Please place your empty box on the table (Share Christmas Boxes) at the back of the church. Your effort is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
