PRISON MINISTRY – Christmas Cards and 2022 CalendaR

Bob Buckham thanks all of you who donated Christmas cards and 2022 calendars for the Prison Ministry.  Bob said that Holy Cross Parish donates the most of any other parish and he wanted to thank us for our generosity.

FROM THE DEVELOPMENT OFFICE

Unfortunately, the Holy Cross Super Bowl Party scheduled for February 13, 2022 has been cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.   Thank you for your support and understanding.

FATHER NORMAN BIRCH

We are saddened to let you know that Father Norman Birch died on January 9, 2022 at the age of 91 years after a month in hospital with fluid in his lungs.  Prayers will be held at Saint Paul’s Parish, Richmond on Tuesday January 18, 2022 and the Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday January 19, 2022 at Holy Rosary Cathedral at 10:00 am.  Father Norman was the Assistant Pastor to Father Tom Shields at Holy Cross from approx. 1972 to 1974 and was also the Chaplain for Simon Fraser University during that time.  Please pray for Father Norman and all the other priests who have served Holy Cross Parish over the years.

2ND COLLECTION THIS SUNDAY

The 2nd collection this Sunday is for the Salvatorian Seminary.  The Salvatorian Fathers, including Father Chris and Father Tomasz, have been serving Holy Cross Parish since 1991.  Please support this collection for the formation of new priests from this religious order.

BELL BURNABY 2022 CALENDARS

Although we are already in 2022, we just received the 2022 Bell Burnaby calendars in both Italian and English.  You can pick them up at the back of the Church.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY (JANUARY 18-25)

During this week of Christian Unity, let us continue to pray to bring our Christian community closer to the heart of Christ in his “unity” prayer to the Father in John 17:20-21.

Two in-person prayer services co-led by Archbishop Miller will be live-streamed:

Jan 19, Wed, 3:30pm at John Paul II Pastoral centre (primarily for internal staff) www.rcav.org/wpcu2022

Jan 20, Thu, 7pm at Holy Rosary Cathedral (open to the public) www.holyrosarycathedral.org

CWL

Thank you to all CWL members who have paid their 2022 membership dues.  It is not too late to pay your $35.00 membership – you can drop it off at the Parish office or leave it in the collection basket at the front of the Church.  Please make sure that you mark the envelope (“CWL membership”).

LISTENING TO INDIGENOUS VOICES

A dialogue guide on Justice and Right Relationships by Jesuit Forum for Social Faith and Justice. “…what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8). You are invited to join us in the journey towards awareness of the voices from the indigenous people starting Monday, January 31, 2022 at 7pm for 12 Mondays (ending on Easter Monday, April 18, 2022).  These sessions will be held on Zoom following the recommendation for online meetings by the Archdiocese.  Changing to in-person meeting will be considered in the future when the recommendation is lifted. The cost to participate is $21 for the book; you also have an option to order online on your own. This journey towards awareness will culminate on April 24, 2022 – the Sunday of Divine Mercy, our hope of all brokenness. Contact Lanny Hui @ 778-999-7097 or email lanny.hui@gmail.com for further inquiries and registration.
