Letter from the Salvatorian Fathers’ Regional Superior

Dear Friends in Christ,

My name is Fr. Maciej Wos, SDS, and I have the joy of serving as the Superior of the Canadian Region of the Salvatorian Fathers. It is with great happiness that I invite you to join us in celebrating the liturgical memorial of our Founder, Blessed Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan, on July 21st.

I also wish to express my sincere and profound gratitude for your ongoing support, kindness, and prayers for us, Salvatorians and for our apostolates. Your generosity strengthens our mission and encourages us in our service to God’s people.

All Salvatorian Fathers working in Canada belong to the Polish Province of the Society of the Divine Saviour. This connection is important: all our benefactors and supporters are remembered daily in the Masses offered in Kraków, and each priest of our Province offers one Mass per year specifically for your intentions. Your goodness is truly carried in prayer.

The apostolic work of our Founder began on December 8, 1881, when Fr. Francis Jordan, together with Fr. Bernard Lüthen and Fr. Frederick von Leonhardi, made their first commitments in the chapel of St. Bridget in Rome. Seeking to deepen and expand this mission, Father Jordan transformed the community into a religious congregation on March 11, 1883, professing vows in St. Peter’s Basilica and receiving the name Francis Mary of the Cross.

From its earliest days, the Society had an international character. By 1894, it numbered 273 members from various nations. Many candidates came from Polish territories—especially around Opole and Upper Silesia. Of the roughly one thousand men who entered the Society between 1881 and 1900, nearly one hundred were Polish. The first Salvatorian community house in Poland opened on July 1, 1903, under the direct authority of the General Superior in Rome. The Polish Province soon extended its missionary zeal far beyond its borders. Alumni of the Seminary in Bagno served in Tanzania (1968), Zaire (1973), India (1990), Australia, and Canada. After the political changes of 1989, Salvatorians responded to new pastoral needs in Russia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Albania, Montenegro, Hungary, Belarus, and Ukraine, and later opened foundations in Italy, Mexico, and Scotland.

I share this history with you to show that every prayer, every act of generosity, and every moment of support helps to continue the mission entrusted to us by Blessed Francis Jordan—not only here in Canada, but across the world.

Our Founder believed deeply that the apostolate must reach all who hunger for Christ and His Gospel, especially those who have never heard His name. His words continue to inspire us: “As long as there is one person on earth who does not know God and does not love God above all things, you dare not allow yourself a moment’s rest… No sacrifice, no cross, no desolation, no trial, no temptation—nothing should be too difficult for you with the help of God’s grace… All peoples, races, nations and tongues, glorify the Lord our God.”Fr. Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan, Spiritual Diary II, 1–2 (20 December 1894)

Once again, thank you for your prayers and generous support. Let us continue to pray for all members of our Salvatorian Family. May God keep us strong in faith and dedicated to His Gospel. May He raise up new and holy vocations—women and men unafraid to serve Him wherever He calls. May our missionary zeal lead us to all who still wait to encounter the God who is love and mercy.

May God bless you abundantly.

Fr. Maciej Wos, SDS
