Homeless Program – Oct 3 & 4
Our Homeless Program begins this weekend, and this is the only weekend (OCT 3-4) that donations are accepted. Clear plastic bags are provided at the back of the Church to help us sort through the donations. Please put the men’s and women’s donations in separate bags. Only the following articles are needed: toques, scarves, gloves/mittens, clothing, winter coats, boots, socks, and blankets. Please ensure your donations are in Good Condition and CLEAN and Reusable. You are most welcome to donate new items. Please tag your donation bag “Men” or “Women” and place it near the homeless box at the inside main entrance of the church before or after Sunday Mass. Since the homeless do not have a place to stay or live in shelters, they cannot accept either furniture or cooking utensils. Also, the shelters and the centers cannot accept children’s clothing because they serve only adults, most of which are males. For more information, please phone/text Dillon Fong (604-561-6918). Thank you for your support in reaching out to those in need.
Share Christmas 2026 (Boxes Needed)
Share Christmas will commence on the 1st Sunday of Advent (Nov 28-29). We will be requesting food products like we normally do. In the meantime, we are asking parishioners to collect boxes that will help us transport your food to the Sisters in the Downtown Eastside. If you happen to shop at AAA, Save-On, Safeway, or Superstore, please ask the staff if they can donate one empty box (apple box preferred). If you are shopping at Costco, please ask the staff if you can take one empty tray (cucumbers, plum, kiwi, or tomato trays preferred). If you collect one box, as a parish community working together, we will be able to collect enough boxes. Please place your empty box on the table (Share Christmas Boxes) at the back of the church. Your effort is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Neocatechumenal Catechesis at Holy Cross Sept 25 to Nov 9, 2026
Do you feel called to a closer relationship with Jesus Christ? If you do, we warmly welcome —adults and post-confirmation youth—parishioners and non-parishioners alike—to attend a series of catechesis (talks) that offer an opportunity to discover what it means to be nourished by Jesus Christ in a small group setting which is the core dynamic of the Neocatechumenal Way. Together we listen to the Word of God, celebrate the sacraments and grow in mutual love through the Holy Spirit.
In Luke 9:10–17, Jesus withdraws privately with his disciples. When crowds follow Him, the disciples suggest sending them away as evening approaches, but Jesus refuses. Instead, He has them sit in small groups and feeds them.
The Catechesis is Mondays and Fridays from Sept 25 to Nov 9, 2026, at 7:30 to 8:45 pm in the Holy Cross Church Basement.
Retreat: Nov. 13—15 (Fri. evening–Sun. afternoon)
Although the Catechesis began Sept 25, it is not too late to begin attending the talks. If you can only attend on Mondays or on Fridays, please do not hesitate to do so.
Please call me if you have any questions or would like to arrange childcare.
Yours in Christ,
Marlene Marsden
