Renovation and Seismic Project UPDATE

Your Pledged Commitment Makes a Difference

As part of our efforts with the Renovation and Seismic upgrade campaign, we’re pleased to share that our volunteers are beginning to connect with our school community for their campaign support.

In our early November update, we shared information about how we intend to raise $500,000 and the cost-effective way of giving through making a pledge. The campaign is hoping to attract donors who will commit to a 5-year pledge period, which allows donors to make a larger contribution spread over a number of years, making it more manageable than a one-time donation. Furthermore, all gifts to this campaign are tax-deductible, and a charitable receipt will be issued.

Donors who pledge a gift over several years will be invited (and encouraged) to complete a pledge form. This form will document your intent to give and the time period over which you plan to do so. Understanding your pledge cycles will help us with our cash flow planning and budgeting efforts as we continue moving forward.  Additionally, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver has agreed to loan us the remaining funds once signed pledge forms are in place (versus a verbal commitment to give). Should you be asked to complete a pledge form, we kindly request that you do so.

Thank you once again for supporting this important campaign!

What is Share Christmas?
Share Christmas is a program designed to help the less fortunate at Christmastime through food donations.  How is it done?  Food products are printed on cards, which are hung on a Christmas tree in the church vestibule on the 1st Sunday of Advent.  Each card on the tree would request a food product be purchased in quantity form for approximately $25 worth.  For example, on the Christmas tree, one card would list Chicken Noodle Soup, another card would list Jam, and so on.  If Chicken Noodle Soup was chosen, the parishioner would take the card and purchase $25 worth of that item.  At the store, Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup, 284 mL, is $1.49/can.  Purchasing 17 cans would be enough, as it works out to about $25.

Share Christmas Begins This Weekend
Share Christmas begins this weekend, and it is the only weekend (Nov 30 – Dec 1) our Christmas tree will be on display in the church vestibule.  On the tree, parishioners will find cards requesting food donations.  For parishioners working with a tight budget who would like to participate, they still can- they can take a card and share it with another parishioner(s).  Since we are using the honor system this year, there is no need to register your card.  However, a Share Christmas Information Table will be present in the church vestibule for parishioners who may have any inquiries.  Next weekend (Dec 7-8) is Receiving Day where food donations along with Share Christmas tree cards are dropped off in our school gym.  After that, all donations will be delivered to a convent in the Downtown Eastside on December 8 (next Sunday.)  The Sisters will distribute your food donations to the families and individuals in need for Christmas.

Share Christmas – Volunteers Needed Next Sunday
We are looking for volunteers to help us load and off-load our delivery truck next Sunday, December 8 at 3:00 pm.  Volunteers must have good backs. Also, among the volunteers present, we will be looking for drivers who can carpool to and from the convent in the Downtown Eastside. The work will take about 2.5 hrs to complete.  If you are interested, please bring a pair of gloves, wear comfortable shoes, and dress for the weather.  For more information, please phone/text Dillon Fong (604 561-6918).
