CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

(SCHOOL RENOVATION AND SEISMIC PROJECT)

Donor Spotlight: The De Vellis Family

Generosity and community are key aspects that we value as a family. My Nonno (Lorenzo Di Niro) physically worked on Holy Cross and I’m proud to carry on the tradition to support the school through this campaign. Marc De Vellis

For over 50 years, the De Vellis family has shared a deep-rooted connection with Holy Cross. Growing up in Burnaby, Marc De Vellis always felt a strong bond with the Holy Cross community. Marc’s mother, Carmela De Vellis, taught catechism to Grade 2 students in 1974/75, and his [grandfather] Nonno, Lorenzo Di Niro, used his construction skills to help build the church.

Now, he and his wife, Petra, are proud to continue that legacy by ensuring their children, Enzo and Marceza, will grow up in the same strong, faith-filled community. “The school is so well organized and effective at maximizing our children’s potential,” Marc shares. “You can feel the support and network across families. As a parent, that is all we can ask for.”

For Marc, this campaign directly impacts the safety and comfort of students and teachers. “Expanding the library will enhance curiosity and storytelling…while upgraded washrooms will add to the level of comfort at the school” explains Marc. He hopes their contribution will help kickstart the campaign, ensuring high-quality renovations that stand the test of time.

He and Petra are grateful for the school’s unwavering dedication to its students and see their support as a meaningful way to give back to a place that has given their family so much. Marc encourages others to join in supporting the initiative, knowing that every donation, no matter the amount, “will make a positive impact…and a chance to pay it forward.”

We are truly grateful for the generosity of the De Vellis family and their dedication to our Holy Cross community.

We will walk step-by-step with Jesus from the garden of Gethsemane to Mount Calvary.  We will go through Old Testament prophecies, messianic expectations, biblical symbolism, and historical context to shed light on the mystery of Christ’s suffering and death.

Sessions will start every Wednesday on March 12 to April 9 at 7:30 pm in the Music Room. You can attend any one or all the sessions. The study Workbook is optional but recommended and will be available during the sessions. For more information, contact Tito Macapinlac at titom1999@gmail.com or (604)761-3135 or the parish office.
