Update November 13, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

We are now nearing the Season of Advent and Christmas and with that comes the awareness of sharing and giving.  With that thought in mind, some of you have already asked me the question whether or not we will be having our annual “Share Christmas” campaign this year, with all proceeds going to the Sisters at Downtown Eastside.   I am very happy to say that . . . Yes, we will, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it will be run differently this year.  Since physical distancing and other health guidelines are in effect, it would be challenging to implement what we have done in the past – having a Christmas tree in the church vestibule, receiving your food donations, and then delivering your food items to the Sisters.   So, to better protect everyone (the Sisters, our parishioners, and volunteers who normally help) from the Coronavirus, we have taken the necessary safeguards and changed the format of Share Christmas this year.

The campaign for “Share Christmas” will run from NOV 14 – DEC 6.  To keep things simple, we are requesting only cash donations (no cheques).  If you would like to help the Sisters, please place your donation in an envelope clearly marked “Share Christmas” and kindly deposit it in the offertory basket in the vestibule of the church before Mass begins.  If you are unable to attend a Sunday Mass, or a morning Mass, you can certainly come to the Parish Office and leave it there.  Your cash donation, regardless of denomination, will be most graciously received by the Sisters in Downtown Eastside and most certainly used to help bring nourishment and joy to those whom they serve.

If you have children beginning Kindergarten in September 2021, you may be interested about the Holy Cross Elementary enrollment process.  From December 1, 2020 to December 15, 2020, Holy Cross Elementary School will be taking the names of prospective Kindergarten students born in 2016 and who will be 5 years old in 2021.  If you are interested in having your child attend Holy Cross Elementary, please bring the following:  child’s birth certificate, baptismal certificate (if baptized Catholic) and your Holy Cross Parish envelope number to the school office from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.  There will be a $10.00 administration fee payable by cash or cheque.  Families selected for the interview process are expected to attend a socially distanced in-person interview on January 8, 2021 (appointment times to be determined).

Blessings,

Fr. Chris Pastuszka, SDS
