Update November 26, 2021
Thank you for donating to our program. We received a generous response. Thanks be to God! Your donations were delivered to the following places in the Downtown Eastside: the Door is Open (run by the Archdiocese & the Carmelite Sisters with hrs from 9 am – 12 pm weekdays), the Al Mitchell Homeless Shelter (24 hrs), the Women’s Emergency Shelter (24 hrs), and the Women’s Center (a drop-in center for women and children with hrs from 10 am – 4 pm daily). Apart from the Downtown Eastside, your donations were handed over to the Catholic Charities Men’s Shelter (run by the Archdiocese with hrs from 4 pm – 11 pm nightly), the Gathering Place (a community center for the homeless with hrs from 10 am – 8 pm daily), and the Yukon Homeless Shelter (24 hrs). Depending on the service hours at each site, the homeless can ask for donations as needed. Once again, thank you for your ongoing support!
We are in the Season of Advent and Christmas and, with that, comes the awareness of sharing and giving. With that thought in mind, we are beginning our annual Share Christmas campaign. As in the past, proceeds will be going to the Sisters in the Downtown Eastside. The campaign for “Share Christmas” will run from NOV 20 – DEC12. To keep things simple, we are requesting cash donations or cheques payable to Holy Cross. If you would like to help the Sisters, please place your donation in an envelope clearly marked “Share Christmas” and deposit it in the collection basket in the lobby of the church before Mass begins. If you are unable to attend a Sunday Mass, or a morning Mass, you can certainly come to the Parish Office and leave it there. Your cash donation, regardless of denomination, will be most graciously received by the Sisters in Downtown Eastside and most certainly used to help bring nourishment and joy to those whom they serve. Please remember that we will not be able to issue a tax receipt for this donation.
2022 Sunday Missals and Little Books
The 2022 Sunday Missals and the Little Books for Advent and Christmas are available for sale at the back of the Church. We will be putting the Sunday Missals in the pews this year when we get the rest of our shipment. The Sunday Missals are $5 each and the Little Books are $2 each. Please place the money in the designated box.
Poinsettias for the Church
If you wish to donate red poinsettias to decorate our church for Christmas, you may drop them off at the parish office by Friday, December 17. We also accept monetary donations.
Thank you to all CWL members who have paid their 2022 membership dues. It is not too late to pay your $35.00 membership – you can drop it off at the Parish office or leave it in the collection basket at the front of the Church. Please make sure that you mark the envelope (“CWL membership”).
Holy Cross Elementary – Kindergarten
Holy Cross Elementary School will be accepting applications for prospective Kindergarten students for the September 2022 intake. Children born in 2017, who will be 5 years of age, are eligible to enter Kindergarten in September. If you are interested in having your child attend Holy Cross, please complete the application form on the school website and return it with a copy of your child’s birth certificate, Baptismal certificate (if Baptised Catholic) and any other documents as outlined on the form. All documents and a $25 non-refundable application fee, payable by cash or cheque, are to be submitted to the school office from November 29th to December 10th between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Families selected for an interview are expected to attend a socially distanced in-person interview on January 7, 2022. Appointment times are to be determined.
